Stay at home parent. A 70 hour a week job.
I’m a stay at home mum with two children aged three and under , I may not go out to work but I certainly have a full time job at home.
If you are a stay at home parent you will understand when I say … some people don’t get what its like to stay at home all day with small children.. I have heard the “oh but you don’t work” “you get to sit at home and relax” “you can eat and watch TV when you like”.
My days consist of looking after the children, nursery pick/drops, laundry, cooking , cleaning, nappies, baths, feeding the kids and so much more. So I don’t sit at home and relax, and the only TV I get to watch are the kids programmes that I am not allowed to change.
As hard as it is sometimes I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am blessed to get to spend my days with the kids, watch them learn new things see them smile and laugh.. it really is the most rewarding job in the world.
My advice to any stay at home parent is make some me time for yourself. When I mean time to yourself , I mean no kids. It is very easy to get stuck in a repetitive routine, day in day out. This can lead to depression and anxiety.
Give yourself at least a few hours during the week. Go out to the cinema , restaurant, for walks. Whatever it may be, the purpose is to get out of your routine. When you do this you will feel recharged and ready for the busy schedule and week ahead.
Get the kids in bed early. I find this very important, It is healthy for the kids to get a good 12 hour sleep, in return it is good for me and my partner. As the kids go to bed at a reasonable time , every night my partner and I can catch up , watch a movie or sit in peace and quiet for a few hours. Helps us wind down before we go to bed.
New parents. Please do not let this put you off. Having kids is the best thing that has ever happened to us , like we always say, the joy it brings is worth every moment.
Keep going stay at home parents. You are all doing a fab job!
